Backpacking Africa from Cairo to Cape Town - Recap !

We're Lisa & Pol and we decided in summer 2023 to go travel, starting with the African continent.
We're travelling low-cost, hitchhiking, couchsurfing, volunteering and usually choosing the most affordable options, although from time to time we'll treat ourselves to a nice activity, hotel or experience. We don't know yet how long we will be travelling, but we will probably head home for a while after reaching South Africa.

For this last part of our ethiopian adventures, we're exploring the famous Omo Valley, home of the Mursi, the Karo, the Hamar and many more tribes. We're traveling low-cost, independently, hiring guides only when necessary. Many thanks to our Couchsurfing hosts and to the many great souls we've had the chance to meet.

On this second part of our Ethiopian adventures, we head to Harar in the east, to meet Abas, the man that lives with the hyenas. We also meet Joel, a local tour guide who introduced us to khat. On our way south to the Omo Valley, we stop in Arba Minch in a great hostel, from where we chilled, slowed down but also tried to spot some crocodiles ...

Our first impressions of Addis and visiting the churches of Lalibela, a UNESCO world heritage site. Lalibela is one of the holiest sites for Ethiopian Orthodox, it features 11 monolithic churches carved directly out of rock. It's an active pilgrimage site and it gets particularly busy around religious holidays. Some say it's the 8th Wonder of the World ... what do you think ?
