We did our safari in december 2023, so prices might have gone up since then, but here is a breakdown :
800ksh (matatu from Nairobi to Narok)
800ksh (matatu from Narok to Talek)
1000ksh*2 (2 nights camping)
160$/2 (private car + driver for the day)
80$ (entrance to the national park)
800ksh (matatu to Narok)
800ksh (matatu to Nairobi)
Total : 195$

We're Lisa & Pol and we decided in summer 2023 to go travel, starting with the African continent.
We're travelling low-cost, hitchhiking, couchsurfing, volunteering and usually choosing the most affordable options, although from time to time we'll treat ourselves to a nice activity, hotel or experience. We don't know yet how long we will be travelling, but we will probably head home for a while after reaching South Africa.

Backpacking Africa from Cairo to Cape Town #9

We spent 15 days on the coast of Kenya, between beaches, wildlife and traditions ...

We started in Diani Beach after a long bus ride from Nairobi, where we stayed for 2 days at Stilts Tree Houses. The beach is incredible, the accomodation great and the 7pm bush baby dinner a real fun time.
From there, we got to Tiwi Beach, and camped for 2 nights at Twiga Lodge. We were alone, and felt like on a remote island, exposed to the elements but also to raw hapiness.
A full day exploring Mombasa, discovering a cool coffee place for the locals.
And finally Lamu for 9 days. Cultural festival, swahili cooking, chilling on the beach, boat rides, Lamu is beautiful and unique...

Our top picks after spending a week in Nairobi and Lake Naivasha !

After 3 weeks in Ethiopia, we reach Kenya and its capital, Nairobi. We're delighted to be in this modern capital and so excited to treat ourselves to fancy cafes, restaurants and activities after having been on a very limited budget in Ethiopia. This is what we've liked the most out of a week in Nairobi and around.
